I approach psychological therapy with a view to working as collaboratively as possible with my clients to both understand and solve problems.

You are the expert in regards to your life experiences, not me. We will work hard together to figure out what exactly is causing distress in your life, what is its wider impact, and why now? What is different about your life right now that led you to seek psychological support? This is part of a thorough initial assessment process, essential in tailoring therapy to suit your individual needs and to ensure it is goal-directed and purposeful.

I have a special interest in working with people to improve their relationship with themselves – the most fundamentally important relationship any of us will have. Often this involves understanding a lifetime’s worth of unhelpful patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving that do not serve us well. These may show up as more commonly-understood problems like depression, anxiety, or stress, or problems in developing and maintaining effective relationships with others. Many of us struggle to set healthy boundaries and limits, to say ‘no’ clearly and directly when it is the skilful thing to do, and to ask for help from others when we need it.

We all need to learn to pay more attention to how we ‘show up’ in life, how we behave, how we treat ourselves as well as others, and to wonder about the effectiveness of these patterns.

I will endeavour to support you to identify what is holding you back from living a life with greater meaning and purpose, calm and contentment; and the skills required to make important adjustments to improve your wellbeing and overall quality of life.
